Here's how easy it is to make your own natural superfood serum

I wouldn't say I'm a skincare expert, but from years of writing about beauty products, I do have a pretty good knowledge about ingredients and what they do. Saying that, I'm ashamed to say I have never even thought about mixing up my own cheaper, healthier and better-for-you version.
That is until I went to the Clean Beauty Co. super serum mixing masterclass this morning. I learnt so much about what goes into the skincare products we use daily, and why making your own can be so much better in the long run. If you fancy learning a little more about home-made, natural skincare, then have a read!

Did you know that...

// If a product has water added to it, then it HAS to also have some form of preservative in it as well, since bacteria can then form. Preservatives are used to make the shelf-life longer, but there's debate over whether or not they cause harm to your skin. //

// A lot of store bought skincare products contain fragrance. Obviously they want you to pick up their cream and buy it because it smells lovely, but artificial fragrances can be strong, and overpowering. You might often find they make your skin sensitivity worse. //

// Products you buy in shops may have some impressive ingredients on the labels - let's say neroli, for example. But if you check how much of it is actually in there, it's often too small to make a difference to your skin. //

So why go natural? Because you can control exactly what you're putting into your serum, oil or cream. You know the concentrations, you know the good stuff won't be diluted, and you can pick exactly what your skin needs!

Here's what I used to make my very own face serum this morning...

You need:

-20ml of a carrier oil (like sweet almond, jojoba or macadamia)
-10ml high performance carrier oil (like argan, calendula, prickly pear or sea buckthorn)
-5(ish) drops of essential oils (like sage, orange, lavender, patchouli or tea tree)

I have sensitive, combination skin so here's what I mixed together...

The finished oil! The buckthorn makes it look very orange.
And there you have it! An easy way to tailor-make your very own serum. If you have any other questions then give me a shout below. I also really recommend having a look at Clean Beauty's online shop because their products are so amazing.
